“Let Freedom Bells Ring” July 4th, 2021 1:30 Start Time
Experience a national tradition from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm in St. Helens, as the Columbia County Courthouse Plaza sets the stage for “Let Freedom Bells Ring” at precisely 2:00 pm on Independence Day July 4th, 2021. Why precisely 2:00 pm? This signifies the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, with the ringing of bells, once for each the 13 founding colonies. “Let Freedom Bells Ring” honors Veterans, Service Members, Law Enforcement, and Firefighters, the ones who protect our freedom as we celebrate America’s 245th birthday!
Our tradition begins at 1:30 pm with a Flag Raising Ceremony conducted by American Legion Post 42, National Anthem, speakers, and be prepared for an enthusiastic countdown to 2:00 pm to hear the chimes of the Courthouse’s Clocktower Bell as it proudly rings along with Courthouse Fog Bell and Warrior Rock Replica Bell! There are more big bells scattered within the community that will ring too! The Courthouse Plaza comes to life with the Larry Jackson Big River Big Band (2:00 to 3:00 pm), the Hwy 30 Cruisers Car Club, and more.
Our Courthouse Plaza offers shade, green grass, so bring your chair, plenty of room to spread out and enjoy sights and sounds! Do you have a bell you would like to bring and ring?
“Let Freedom Bells Ring” is made possible by American Legion Post 42, VFW Post 1440, Post 4362, Scout Troop 106, Hometown Heroes, Elks Veteran Bunker, St. Helens Main Street Alliance, Keep it Local, and many community volunteers. Contact: Judy Thompson 503-397-6056
