Location: Sand Island Campground and Marine Park 10 am – 8 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday – After 8 pm you should plan on staying on the island overnight.

Stay on the island and make a reservation now at http://www.sandislandcampground.com . Stay in town at our host hotel Best Western Oak Meadows Inn. Phone 503-397-3000. Stay and play! Reservations at these locations yield the guest with a discount of 25% at our gift shop. Simply show your “Sand Castle Ticket Stub” from the hotel or campground for proof of paid reservation.

Vote for your favorite: Each person will receive a ticket to vote for their favorite creation. Voting takes place at the end of the weekend by count and will be announced online.

How to get there: Once you have your ticket to the Sand Castle Area you will be taken from St. Helens Oregon City Docks on the waterfront which are located directly in front of City Hall 265 Strand Street, St. Helens, OR 97051. FREE parking is included in your ticket and available by driving to the end of First Street by Dockside Restaurant. None ticketed parking is $5. Next walk towards the County Courthouse Clock tower and go down the stairs towards the water and by the stage. Enter the gangplank by the Black Dog and proceed to the outer most floating dock. See signage for further instructions. Come aboard and cross to Sand Island. What to take? Sunblock, hats, sense of adventure, sand chairs, sand pails, beach gear and a fun attitude. While on the island you’ll be able to enter the Sand Castle Carving Area and participate in the island scavenger hunt. Every completed hunt card holder will receive an achievement pin. Dogs are allowed on leash but must be in-control of owner at all times. No off leash dogs are allowed within the carving area. This is set up to be a relaxing day enjoying the beach and exploring and seeing the best of the best sand carvings.

On the island you can buy candy, pizza, sandwiches, water, and beverages. On main land there are many options. We reserve the right to add food choices. There will also be a “gift shop” on the island with limited amounts of cool stuff you will want. Buy early and be happy you scored.

What to expect: We have award winning carvers who will be showcasing their creations. On Friday the carving will be completed and you can watch the progress. On Saturday and Sunday all carvings will be available for display and you can participate in finding highlights and hidden objects on the island.

Want to learn more about sand carving? Free classes are available for wannabe better sand carvers. Instruction is available from 1 – 2 pm on Saturday with periodic instruction following. There will be a quick carve competition amongst our competition team Saturday at 2 pm you won’t want to miss.
